How does a home standby generator work?
An automatic transfer switch watches the utility power. When it senses an outage it starts the generator and moves the home’s circuits onto it, then switches back when utility power returns.
Can a generator power the whole house?
It can, if it is sized for it. Some owners choose whole-home coverage; others cover essentials such as refrigeration, HVAC, lighting and medical equipment. LEC sizes the unit to that choice.
Is a generator worth adding during construction?
Adding the transfer switch and connection during construction is simpler and tidier than a retrofit, and it lets the pad and fuel line be planned with the site.
